Abstract

ABSTRACT

Migration carried out by Madurese people in various regions in Indonesia is also spread in one of the villages in Banyuwangi, namely Kalibaru Wetan, Kalibaru District. This study aims to determine the migration constraints experienced by the Madurese community in Kalibaru Wetan Village, Kalibaru District. The main problem that we will examine in this research is the obstacles or difficulties experienced by Madurese migrants who choose to migrate to Kalibaru. Methodologically, this research is historical research, so the method we use is the historical method using 4 stages of work, namely Heuristics (collection of data sources, both oral and written sources), Criticism (data verification), Interpretation, and Historiography (writing). research result).

The results of this study indicate that there are 4 obstacles (1) language barrier, the use of everyday language that is understood and understood by Madurese is only Madurese, so that the adaptation process to a new environment is quite difficult. (2) mental constraints, when deciding to migrate, most Madurese migrants are still quite young so their mentality is tested by having to live far and apart from their parents. (3) communication problems with families in Madura, due to the absence of fast communication tools such as cellphones in ancient times, so communicating smoothly with families in Madura was only through letters, which took a long time to process. (4) constraints on working capital, because choosing a location near a market, of course, migrants need money as business capital, due to limited capital, borrowing from banks/loan sharks is the way out, even with relatively high interest. So it can be concluded that these constraints are divided into 2, namely internal and external constraints.
