The livestock sector in Pakistan is a critical component of the country's agricultural economy, deeply influencing rural livelihoods, food security, and social structures. This paper explores the intersections of livestock with Pakistan’s cultural, economic, and social dynamics, highlighting its role in rural livelihoods, traditional practices, and gender roles. Livestock serves as a significant economic asset for many rural families, contributing to income generation and acting as a buffer during economic hardships. Culturally, livestock plays an integral role in festivals, social status, and community cohesion. However, the sector faces several challenges, including disease outbreaks, climate change, and gender disparities. Women, despite their crucial role in livestock management, often face barriers in accessing resources and decision-making processes. This paper emphasizes the need for inclusive policies that address these challenges by promoting gender equality, improving veterinary services, and adopting climate-resilient livestock practices. By addressing these issues, Pakistan can ensure the sustainable development of its livestock sector, contributing to economic growth, poverty alleviation, and social stability.
